Chronicle

The Chronicle series consists of six large paintings, each of which repeats the same image. These artworks are not exact copies of each other. Although the enlargement of a crown is visible, this series can also be read as an exploration of the repetitive relations binding mutually interdependent paintings where the attention is mostly drawn to colour nuances and variations in shape between the wide strips of paint.

This series refers to the idea of a multiple wanting to appear identical but are not – nolens volens – due to the nature of the medium. Whether an oil painting wants to or not: each piece is unique. At the same time, the multiplication of the same image accentuates the loss of identity, and the image loses its aura of uniqueness.
